Plan Your Weather Briefing at This Month's Second Saturday!

At this month's Second Saturday Seminar, please join us in welcoming National Weather Service Senior Meteorologist Clinton Rockey, who will offer a look at how to get a good Weather Self-Briefing. Clinton has lived all over the United States, observing weather from Massachusetts to Kansas to Arizona. He's been with the NWS forecast office in Portland since 1995, and he earned his private pilot certificate in 1997. At this month's event, Clinton will talk about planning a VFR flight by accessing real-time weather data — and asking us to assess just how sharp our aviation weather knowledge actually is. Don't miss this one!

This month's Second Saturday gets underway on April 14 at 1100 in the Education Hangar at Willamette Aviation. The event is certified for FAA Wings credit and there is no charge — drop by or sign up on the Wings website to save your spot. We'll see you there!

Short Finals…

· We're delighted to welcome Ron Vandehey this month to our team of flight instructors here at Willamette Aviation! Ron is a native Oregonian who enjoys all that Oregon has to offer: team roping, downhill skiing, hunting, fishing, and more. He's a firefighter by profession, but also a pilot who has had a passion for airplanes since childhood. Ron started flying in the 1980s, eventually earning multiple certificates and ratings. He took a short time away from aviation to raise a family. Now a CFII, Ron gets to fulfill a lifelong dream — teaching others how to fly. Be sure to say "Hi!" the next time you see him in the pilot's lounge or on campus.

· Summer is just around the corner — which means plenty of VFR mornings, busy afternoons, and late sunsets. If you're like most Oregon pilots, you'll log most of your hours this year during the spring and summer months. Our monthly Pilots' Workshop is an excellent way to stay on top of flying subject matter, while also earning credit with the FAA Wings safety program. This month's Pilots' Workshop gets started at 1100 on Saturday, April 28 in the Education Hangar at Willamette Aviation. The event is no charge and eligible for Wings credit. Drop by or sign up on the Wings website to save your seat!

· Finally, while we're looking forward to plenty of VFR days this spring and summer, we'll also be indoors supporting our pilot community with several ground schools. Our latest two-day Multi-Engine Ground School will be the last weekend of this month, on April 28-29. Our next 12-week Private Pilot Ground School gets underway on Saturday, May 5th (0800-1200). And our 10-week IFR Ground School kicks off on May 7th, running Monday and Wednesday evenings from 1900-2100.
