Learn About Aircraft Ownership at This Month's Safety Briefing!

Many pilots begin learning to fly with plans of owning a personal airplane. But once they have their license in hand, the tasks of finding, purchasing, and maintaining an aircraft present even more questions. At this month's Summer Safety Briefing, we'll take a close look at buying and maintaining aircraft. Do you know if you should buy new, or used? Sole owner, or in a partnership? How do you know if you're getting a fair price? What does a pre-purchase inspection entail? And once you have the airplane in your possession, how do you maintain your aircraft's paperwork and logbooks so that you are in compliance with all regulations and legal to fly? If you think aircraft ownership might be in your future, don't miss this one!

This month's safety briefing gets underway on Saturday, July 14 at 1100 hrs in the Education Hangar at Willamette Aviation, and it's eligible for FAA Wings credit. We'll also host a Community Potluck BBQ at 12 noon, with plenty of burgers and dogs for everyone. Drop by to get a look at the airplanes on our ramp, and please bring chips, a dish, or a dessert to share if you can.

Short Finals…

· We're delighted to welcome Katie Leonard to our CFI team here at Willamette Aviation. Katie started her flying career 20 years ago when her mom took her to Evergreen Field in Vancouver for a discovery flight. Right away, she was hooked. After earning her Private Pilot's license, she continued to build ratings and experience, becoming a CFI when she was just 21. Katie's flight career has been structured around education, working as a full-time flight instructor until 2010, and then joining Portland Community College, where she was the chair of the PCC Aviation Program. Now at Willamette Aviation, Katie pursues her love of flight by connecting with new students and pilots looking for a Flight Review or additional training. "Teaching people is my favorite part of flying," Katie says. "I love helping people achieve their goals." Be sure to say "Hi!" to Katie the next time you see her in the Pilot's Lounge or on the ramp.

· More summer weather means more of our regional airshow season. The 50th Annual Arlington Fly-In will take place at Arlington Municipal July 6-8. If you'd enjoy a flight to the beach, the Florence Wings & Wheels will be at Florence Municipal on July 7. And the Second Annual Corvallis Corkscrew Aerobatic Competition will be at Corvallis Municipal from July 12-14 (be sure to check for Temporary Flight Restrictions during your flight planning). Take your own airplane, or rent one from us, and watch our upcoming newsletters for even more events on the summer airshow schedule!
