We'll Review Flight Plan Changes at August Safety Briefing! All pilots are familiar with the FAA's standard flight plan form — if you've been flying for a while, you might even have each box and all of the codes memorized. However, starting on Aug. 27, the FAA is transitioning all domestic flights to the international flight plan form, which aligns with ICAO standards. Join us at this month's Summer Safety Briefing, where we'll take a closer look at what brought about the change, what to expect, and how to get the most from the international form. Pilots have been able to use the ICAO flight plan as an option for some time now. In fact, the mandatory transition originally was announced in 2017. However, this is the year that the familiar domestic form will be eliminated. We'll discuss what that means for you, whether you file over the telephone or electronically.

Air Show Events Every Weekend This Month! · August is the busiest month of the year for regional airshows and events, all within flying distance. The B-17 Alliance Foundation's Fly-In Fundraiser "Warbirds Over the West" will take place at McNary Field in Salem on Aug. 10-11. Plan for some busy airspace when you drop by the Independence Fly-In & Vans Homecoming at Independence State (Aug. 16-18). Crowds will gather at the popular Arlington Fly-in at Arlington Municipal (Aug. 16-18). The Northwest Art & Air Festival returns to Albany Municipal on Aug. 23-24. The Airshow of the Cascades will turn up the heat at Madras Municipal on Aug. 23-24. And The Great Oregon Homebuilt Fly-In will take place at Cottage Grove State on Aug. 29. Take your own airplane, or rent one from us, and watch our upcoming newsletters for even more events on the summer airshow schedule!
