Loss of Control Prevention at Second Saturday!

At this month's Second Saturday Seminar, FAA Safety Team Representatives Brig Williams and Phil Mandel will cover the importance of preventing and managing Loss of Control incidents, which have been on the rise in the local area. Local flight instructor Philip Mandel and his student experienced a significant power loss departing Pearson Field earlier this year. Fortunately, they landed back at Pearson without incident. We'll get a look at cockpit video and evaluate what lessons can be learned. CFI Brig Williams will explore recent local accident data, and he'll explain how the FAA's Wings pilot safety program can create safer, more proficient pilots.

This month's Second Saturday gets underway on Nov. 9 at 1100 in the Education Hangar at Willamette Aviation. The event is certified for FAA Wings credit and there is no charge — drop by or sign up on the Wings website to save your spot. We'll see you there!

Short Finals…

· We're delighted to welcome Mindy Fisher to our team of flight instructors at Willamette Aviation! Mindy grew up with a Marine Pilot father, and she followed his footsteps into aviation, and eventually the military. Mindy earned her Private Pilot certificate when she was just 19, in Great Falls, Montana. Since then, she's earned multiple FAA ratings, including Multi-Engine Instructor. In the meantime, Mindy completed her college education, served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, and she finds time to teach equine therapy classes. At Willamette Aviation, Mindy combines her love of teaching with her love of flying. She also feels a strong bond with the aviation community. "It's not just a community, but also a family," she says. "Everyone feels welcome to be here." Please be sure to say hello to Mindy the next time you see her on our campus!

· New to our fleet of rental aircraft is a white-and-red 1975 Cessna 150, N10766, which is an affordable trainer for Private Pilot students, as well as an excellent two-seat choice for scenic flights and hamburger runs. It's strictly VFR-only, but on board is a Garmin GPSMap 196, which is perfect when flying to specific airports or navaids. Pilots can even enter multi-leg VFR flight plans. Garmin 196 checklists are available in our Pilot Shop. Feel free to contact one of our CFIs or our dispatch desk to get a look at our latest Cessna and schedule a checkout flight.
