Get Airplane Care & Maintenance Tips at This Month's Second Saturday!

The care and feeding of an airplane is sometimes more art than science, but there are things that all of us can do to properly manage the aircraft we rent or own. At this month's Second Saturday Seminar, Willamette Aviation CFI Brian Musson will present a top-ten list of Airplane Care & Maintenance Tips, so that we all can be better stewards of these complex machines. Do you know the best way to clean a windshield, move a propeller, or tow an airplane? Being a great pilot means taking care of your plane so that it takes care of you. By following best practices, you can improve your airplane's longevity, which will provide you with a better flying experience.

This month's Second Saturday gets underway on Oct. 14 at 1100 in the Education Hangar at Willamette Aviation. The event is certified for FAA Wings credit and there is no charge. After the event, everyone is welcome to stick around for this month's Apple Pie Social. We'll be serving hot apple pie and other treats. We'll see you there!

Short Finals…

· We're delighted to welcome Paul Glatts to our flight instruction team at Willamette Aviation! Paul always has been fascinated by flight. While growing up in rural Montana, he built countless model airplanes and always dreamed of flying a real one. Studying for a degree in engineering at Walla Walla University, he earned his private pilot's license as "just a hobby." However, the lure of aviation proved too strong, and after gaining his instrument rating and commercial license Paul graduated with a degree in aviation. He expanded his flight experience with a paragliding license, and he can regularly be seen hanging under a canopy. Paul now seeks to pass on his love of flying to emerging pilots. "I have a special passion for teaching back-country landings," he says. "I want to prioritize safety and share my enthusiasm with all of my students."

· Our friends at Horizon Air will be visiting our campus this month to host a Pilot Development Program event. If you plan to make aviation a career and you're on the fast track, drop by to meet with Horizon's pilots and learn how their development program paves the way to Horizon Air. Horizon also offers the fastest path to mainline flying at Alaska Airlines, and financial incentives are included. Drop by our Education Hangar on Monday, Oct. 30 at 1000 hours. After the presentation, Horizon's team will be conducting interviews (slots are limited). Find out more at careers.alaskaair.com.
